These Are a Few of Our Nastiest Things

Our Nastiest Things
Sung to the tune of “My Favorite Things”

Nastiest Things CollageHydraulic fracking and hormone-fed cattle,
Over-priced coffee they roast in Seattle,
Vanishing bees that will no longer sting,
These are a few of our nastiest things.

Tea Party prophets and warming deniers,
Limbaugh and Bachman and rich banker liars,
Brown lakes and sparrows too sick to take wing,
These are a few of our nastiest things.

When the streams burn.
When the air stings.
When we’re feeling mad.
We simply remember our nastiest things
and then we don’t feel so bad.

Under-paid workers and over-paid bankers,
Congresses full of professional wankers,
Drone-carried packages Amazon brings,
These are a few of our nastiest things.

Penguins with suntans and dolphins on beaches,
Mutant tomatoes and G.M.O. peaches,
Blistering Winters and long silent Springs,
These are a few of our nastiest things.

When the streams burn.
When the air stings.
When we’re feeling mad
We focus our power on positive things
And then we can change what’s bad.
